Sunday 4th May 2008 v Norton Lindsey & Wolverton CC - Away

Norton Lindsey 128-6 off 37.5 overs - Snitterfield 127-9 off 40 overs
Norton Lindsey won by 4 wickets

The weather finally allowed Snitterfield CC's season to get underway with a visit to neighbouring Norton Lindsey on Sunday. This season's skipper Richard Yendall made an inauspicious start by losing the toss and being asked to bat.

Some tight and and lively bowling by Norton Lindsey's opening attack saw Snitterfield struggle early on, with Kumarasinghe, Leefe, Payne and Will Linford all falling cheaply. Young Ed Linford then joined Yendall at the crease to make his Snitterfield debut, and showed little respect for the opposition bowling. He hit several fine shots to make a rapid 25 and this gave Snitterfield's innings some badly-needed momentum. Dan Wood played with confidence for a valuable 22 and Yendall reached 50 before being caught off the bowling of A.Berry, a promising young bowler making his senior debut for the home side.

Snitterfield finished on 127-9, which was always going to be a difficult total to defend against a strong home side. Will Linford bowled a fine opening spell and clean bowled Thorogood. Lee Hillier also struck early on to give Snitterfield hope, and Jean Visser and Andy Payne bowled tight spells without any luck. Norton Lindsey seemed to be cruising to victory but Ed Linford bowled excellently and took two quick wickets to set-up a close finish. Two more wickets fell to Yendall, one courtesy of a fine catch by Payne, but Tom Warner hit some quick runs to take Norton Lindsey to victory with 13 balls to spare. Opener S.Berry was a thorn in Snitterfield's side, giving very few chances and finishing unbeaten on 51 not out.

Special mention must be made of Snitterfield's fielding, which was excellent. Countless fine stops and chases helped to keep the home side's score down, in particular by Holyoake. A great team effort and respectable score against a strong side, which bodes well for the coming season!
