Tour Reports

Weston-Super-Mare 2007

For the dozen or so members that didn't make it to Weston, you missed a treat, although I dare say your livers are thankful. For wives, partners, mums and dads, well they were all thankful that the 10 that headed down to the Somerset coast all returned in tact, which has to be minor miracle of sorts when you look at who the club let loose onto the unsuspecting locals:

Austin Booth (Tour Manager), Sam Evans, Lee Hillier, Neil Jackson, Krishan Kumarasinghe, Ben Leefe, Brett MacKay, Glenn Richards, Jean Visser and Ian Wyllie.

Travelling mid-week made for an uneventful and delay-free journey with Sam and Glenn arriving first and grabbing the best rooms - selfish sods! Krish was lucky to get there in one piece having bored his fellow travellers with the contents of the Audi owners handbook. (Poor lad needs to get out more, but at £25 a month for his keep he is is probably worried that someone else will nick his room. Too right! Form an orderly queue behind me!).

Anyway, on the Tuesday night the lads tested half the bars in Weston and on the Wednesday night the hardcore AA members tested the rest. It has to be said that Weston has some OK bars, some average bars and a number of truly appalling bars that would have to smarten up a bit to make it onto the set of Shameless.

In between this we played cricket against a Weston side on their splendid ground, in a force 9 gale. You can read the match report on the Midweek Reports page.

That's it basically, our first tour was a great success, good for the manly bonding stuff and all that and an eye opener as far as personal hygiene and grooming goes!!!

To Auz from all that went, a big thanks for actually making it happen when others had failed for three years on the trot. You get to keep the job so start planing next year's tour matey. I heard the word Windies mentioned? If that's a tour to Antigua guest of the legend that is Sir Viv, you can count us all in. If it means playing in a gale again - I think we are all busy that day!

Thanks to the owners of the Florence Guest House. Immaculate, comfortable, great breakfasts and very friendly. They also had the sense not to book any other guests while we were there.

A special mention to the manager and staff at the Nook & Harbour "Diner & Disco Bar" (their words not mine) for feeding 10 of us an excellent meal at very short notice.

And finally, a big thanks to our hosts Weston-Super-Mare Cricket Club. Excellent facilities, ace match tea and a competitive and sporting match despite the wind. We will definitely come again and repeat our invitation for you to visit us if your wanderings bring you anywhere close by.
